Rest Day Recipes: Quick & Easy Trail Mix

Trail Mix is super easy and high in healthy fats and protein.

How to make Trail Mix:

  1. Go to the section of your grocery store where they have those bins full of treats.
  2. Grab a variety of nuts of your choice
  3. Grab a scoop of M&M's (mine are homemade--they're SLIGHTLY healthier) or sweet treat of your choice (sometimes I get Reese's Pieces or mini homemade peanut butter cups). WARNING: To ensure that you're trail mix is does more good than harm to your body, diet, etc., limit the amount of this item in the overall recipe/mix.
  4. Grab a big ol' scoop of raisins or craisins or whatever dried fruit your heart desires.
  5. Anddd lastly, mix all those ingredients together.

Trail Mix is a great alternative to the granola bar (what the heck sticks those things together anyway?--lots of unneeded sugar). Anyway, Trail Mix is delicious and easy for "on the go" and for pre/post-workouts. Enjoy!

Workout Wednesday: "Frankenstein" (Leg) Workout

You'll never guess what exercises I've borrowed for my own gym routine this week! Okay, Okay, it's another leg day workout, but I'm obsessed with finding exercises that people with injuries like mine (I have a stress reaction on my right heel) can do on leg day! People with injuries similar to mine are often told they can't do any weight baring leg exercises at the gym--no more leg day? GASP, NO FREAKIN' WAY! I have to admit it's super slim picking for exercises that don't or won't irritate my heel, BUT I think I've found a good starting point. Hope you enjoy my 'Frankenstein' of a leg/lower body (and a little mid-section) workout!

Oh and thanks again to Pinterest for helping me find all these different exercises! If you want to check out the entire workout you can find them on my Pinterest board "Health & Fitness."

Versatile Blogger Award

versatile Thanks a million to Deniza for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger Award! You're a rock star and are so inspiring! If you guys don't know Deniza and her blog, Ask Deniza, you should definitely check it out. :)

Here are the rules:

1. Show the award on your blog 2. Thank the person that has nominated you. 3. Share 7 different facts about yourself. 4. Nominate 15 blogs of your choice 5. Link your nominees and let them know of your nomination.

7 Facts about myself

1. I'm originally from good ol' Maryland.

I've got the perks of both a country and city gal :P

2. I eat the skin on  a kiwi.

My roommate, who you've met plenty of times, seems to think this is very strange...but HEY it's high in fiber soooo whateve :P

3. I LOVE THE OUTDOORS.

My first job as a teenager was at a campground cleaning cabins and bathhouses (yes, that includes toilets), so I grew a affinity towards the fresh air and outdoors. I also grew up surrounded by farms, so living in the hustle and bustle of Philadelphia, I particularly enjoy and appreciate nature.

4. Aside from Health & Fitness, another interest of mine is Art (+Design).

Actually, I'm a professionally exhibiting artist (www.carleemyers.com) and own two Etsy shops (Zazen Creations & Masturbation Station). Zazen Creations is an etsy shop featuring my own original artwork and custom wood burned items and Maturbation Station is a line of tissue box covers meant to be sold as gag gifts for occasions like bachelor/bachelorette parties, going away gifts, birthdays, etc.

5. I'm a hippie at heart.

I've always been a simple person when it comes to love. I believe we should spread the love and happiness and by doing so anyone can make a dramatic and positive impact on the world.

6.  One of my lifelong goals to meet the Dalai Lama.

I've never been a particularly religious person, but I am spiritual and would consider myself someone who does have an amateur interest in Buddhism. I'd love to sit down with the Dalai Lama one day and really pick his brain...or at least have a casual conversation with him (or her, you never know!).

7. I thoroughly enjoy stopping and smelling the roses.

Well, not literally, but every time I go on a walk, run, bike ride or the likes I find myself stopping to admire the little things in life.
