Do you know the difference between Big “T” trauma and Little “t” trauma?
On this week's episode of The Stress Less Show, I brought on Nicole Lewis-Keebler, an expert on trauma and business. Yep, two words that don't typically share a sentence...
When I first met Nicole I was completely blown away by her work and decided I just HAD to have her on the show and I have to tell you she didn't disappoint.
One of the biggest things she shared on the show were the concepts of little “t” trauma and big "T" Trauma.
Big “T” trauma is usually when we have this one crazy event that happens in our lives that completely shifts everything. A violent event, a hurricane, a natural disaster, etc.
Little “t” trauma - it's a little different. Little “t” trauma is often a bunch of little things that build up over time. Now since our focus on the show this month is religious trauma you can imagine that Nicole has some pretty interesting insights when it comes to the concept of little "t" trauma and "religion gone wrong." You have to check it out!
But what she shared really reminded me of something my mentor, Heather Dominick, has been known to share in our work together as part of the Highly Sensitive Leadership Training Program...
“Repeated socialization is a form of trauma.”
Let me say that again.
“Repeated socialization is a form of trauma.”
Oftentimes we are told...
'Don’t act this way'.
'Don’t dress that way.'
'Don't doubt what we are teaching you.'
'...Or else <insert implied or directly shared consequence here>.'
Repeated socialization is trauma???
This concept about broke my brain for the better. It broke down the walls to an even deeper spiritual experience I never thought possible.
Curiosity peaked? I highly recommend checking out this week’s episode!
