I have a confession to make...
I feel completely and utterly unqualified to talk about what it’s like to be a mom, let alone parenting during the pandemic. The closest I've gotten to either of these experiences is having two fur babies at home and, let's be real, that's not at all the same thing...
And yet I've been getting quite a few requests to talk about how to navigate at home learning and pandemic parenting on The Stress Less Show.
That being said there is one thing I keep seeing with my clients (parents and non-parents alike) that I am qualified to talk about...
Our tendency to worry about things that are outside of our control. Specifically, worrying about how other people will act or show up in the world.
Whether it's our kids, our spouse, our boss or whatever other people in our lives, their actions are outside of our control whether we like it or not. If you're anything like me you may not like this revelation. It's a scary thought that every person around us can act however they'd like.
We've seen this over and over again during the pandemic, masks or no masks...boy is that a debate!
We've seen it as part of the US Presidential election...what is this old man going to do now?
I've seen when my niece and nephew were younger and wanted something at the grocery store my sister wouldn't buy them...
Them: screaming
Me: frozen, embarrassed and also wanting to just buy them the damn candy bar so they'd stop.
It can be hard to stop worrying or trying to control things that are completely out of our control.
So, this week I’m diving into how we can navigate the uncontrollable to kick off our month long conversation about pandemic parenting and at home learning.
