Calming the Nervous System with Nature

Two weeks ago I went hunting for the first time with my dad.

I had been preparing for this experience for MONTHS - taking the hunter's safety course, going to the range to zero in the scope on my rifle, practicing my shot for even more accuracy, getting my hunting license, gear and more.

Then the day of the hunt came. I woke up at 4:30am to get dressed, eat breakfast and hit the road for the mountain. We made it to our parking spot just before 6am and began our trek through the leaf covered woods to my dad's tree stand. At 6am, we were all set up at our post ready to go.

An hour and a half goes by before we see our first two deer at 7:30am - they were far away and no sooner did they show themselves did they trot off into a cornfield nearby a few seconds later.

8:30am...nothing.
9:30am...nothing.
10:30am...nothing.

The pattern continued for 6 more hours...there was nothing to see except some mice, a chipmunk and some birds, including a beautiful woodpecker pecking away at a tree a few yards ahead.

There were times I struggled staying awake.

And other times I heard the success of others nearby and thought to myself 'Good for them' and 'I wish there was more happening here.'

Time continued to pass.

4:30pm came and went and the sun was setting. We needed to pack up and get out of the woods before dark.

At 4:45pm I saw a deer for the first time in more than 9 hours. We paused to take notice.

It was a doe (a lady deer).

We were in buck season (AKA the ladies are off limits).

Damn.

We packed up and went home after more than 12 hours.

We were empty handed and yet our hearts were feeling full.

Why is this?

Well, I believe it's because I received a rare and beautiful gift - I got to spend an entire day from sunrise to sunset staring into the woods, connecting with the woods, and appreciating the woods.

I received more than 12 hours of good vibes from mother earth herself.

I received the gift of a full day retreat that reset my nervous system.

If you haven't heard me say it yet - nature is one of the best ways to calm the nervous system and relieve stress.

This is just basic human nature. It's foundational and it's something that I teach my clients to return to. In fact, during some of my private VIP days with clients we spend the entire day in nature together.

She's powerful, that mother nature.

What's even more powerful is when you get to collaborate with her and do the deep work to experience emotional freedom.

If you're not already there, it's okay and I have an invitation for you. I invite you to apply for a discovery call with yours truly (that's me).

Because what's life about if it isn't about bringing more peace and love to the world? You have the power to do just that - be the change you want to see in the world.

Mother nature sends her love,

PS: If you're curious why I've decided to hunt to supplement the meat purchased at the store, the short of it is my desire to honor and respect the animals I choose to eat and the environment in which they came from. Industrial Farms don't always treat their animals well and this industry is something I'm working to support less of (though there is always an exception to the rule). A quick google search about the injustices happening at industrial farms might bring you up to speed, if needed.
