How to Use the Law of Attraction

Money. It is one of the top stressors in the US for both men and women, and it’s pretty clear why. Many of us want and need more money in our lives to take care of ourselves and our families, but how many of us are truly in the right mindset to receive and attract it? August is money month here on The Stress Less Show and this week, I brought on author, teacher, speaker, and holistic practitioner, Hillis Pugh, to help us start the money conversation by talking about how the law of attraction can put us in a more financially abundant mindset.

Hillis’s journey with the law of attraction began during the 2008 recession when he had to reinvent his career after losing his business. With the help of family and friends, Hillis was able to make it through his financial hardships and completely alter the way he approached his relationship with money, family, and even gratitude.

“Part of what brought me on my path was to teach myself, how to receive money and how to be open to not just money, but to receive the love and appreciation from my friends and family. And it was that energy in itself that allowed me to see what gratitude really is.”

His experience led him onto the path he is on today where he is helping to guide others on their own journey through life. Read on to hear some of his tips on how the law of attraction can help you connect to financial abundance.

What is the Law of Attraction?

Before we can tap into the power of the law of attraction, we first need to understand what it is because it is more than just wanting something. Hillis offers a simplified definition of envisioning ourselves like a magnet.

“Think of yourself as a giant magnet and you're walking down the street and whatever thought you have, you can attract that as long as you're on that same frequency or have that same energetic pull as your thought.”

Going deeper, Hillis explains that the law of attraction begins with our thoughts and then connects our thoughts to particular emotional energies that we reinforce with our words and lead us to take subconscious and conscious action and attract the things we want that align with those thoughts and emotions. 

How do we manifest more wealth in our lives?

Now that we have an understanding of what the law of attraction is, we can start to utilize this mindset to manifest more money in our lives. To do this, Hillis suggests creating a personal affirmation that we can use daily to begin reframing our thoughts and aligning our energy with a more abundant future. The key to creating this affirmation, Hillis notes, is to think about what we are trying to manifest for ourselves in a general sense at first before getting hung up on specifics. 

While we may want a million dollars to show up in our bank account next week, manifestation isn’t a magical wish-granting tool. It is a process that begins with centering ourselves and our minds around where we are heading so that we can begin to move in that direction over time.

“You start off being in general, [and] allow the energy to open up. Now once you sit in the generalization of what you want, then you can feel the joy, the happiness, [and] the vibration lifting yourself for you to become more specific about what you want.”
