Are you a tea drinker? For those of you who know me well, you know that I am a total caffeine-free tea person. I love it! But besides just being a delicious warm beverage to have in the wintertime, tea can also be a much more powerful and mindful experience. I sat down with my friend and colleague, Louise Carruth of Little Candle Tea Company, to have her share a little insight on how tea can do wonders for your day in more ways than you’d expect!

As a retired school teacher, Louise loves to share her knowledge with others and she’s applied that to her love of tea - a love that began after a friend opened her up to the world of making loose leaf tea. She dove into her own research and now owns her own tea company where she not only sells a variety of delicious teas (one of which is my absolute favorite!) but she also offers unique virtual tea tasting experiences where she educates and explores the world of tea with you.

It is through her own tea journey and her company where she has come to view making and drinking tea as the most important eight minutes of your day. Because in a world where so many of our lives are fast and busy, brewing and enjoying a good cup of tea can actually invite us to slow down and experience a truly mindful experience if we pay attention to our actions and the process.

I wonder how many teabag people notice that when you pour the water over the teabag, air forms inside the bag and the bag rises to the top. Watch it rise to the top. Watch it filled with water, watch it go back down. Mindfulness is not necessarily meditating where you have to clear your mind of everything. Learn to let the thoughts go through your mind.

Brewing your cup of tea in the morning may be an automatic thing you speed through each day, but if you are looking for a little more mindfulness in your life, it might just be waiting for you in your cup! Try paying closer attention to your tea routine and make it a ritual. You’d be surprised how a few minutes of mindful attention can change the course of your day!
